Recording guitars with Nil Badia

Recording guitars with Nil Badia

By Lucas Balanzó

Nil is a great friend I hadn’t seen in a long time. One day, I went to a place some friends and I shared, and happened to see him there. We reconnected.

As we started seeing each other again, I thought he could play some of the guitar parts on Lulu Cinnamon. He is a very skilled guitarist. Eventually, I organised the recording.

It was the first time I had organised a session to record someone other than myself. I had always done the music on my own, so that was a new part of making this album.

We planned to do it in one day. We needed another. Across those two days, we spent hours recording and reviewing what we had played.

His parts brought so much to the record. I can’t imagine the album with them missing.

In Amp, for example, the “solo” section is his. There are several guitars layered over one another, and together they create a very special feeling. That is one of the places where you can hear what he brought to the music.

When I remember those sessions, I also remember the way they began: running into a friend I had missed, seeing each other again, and eventually finding ourselves making something together.

Additional guitars on Lulu Cinnamon: Nil Badia.
